Considering a Whippet?

Timbreblue Sunshine & Shadow

A whippet needs company. He wants to be with his people all the time, but if that's not possible, another dog will do. A whippet left alone all day is liable to be very unhappy and may make his misery known by howling, barking, or trying to escape from the house or his crate. Consider adding another whippet to the household if yours seems lonely.

Though the price of a whippet puppy or young adult varies from region to region, it's in the ballpark of $800 - $1500 in the eastern part of the United States. Prices may be higher in the Northeast and California. The majority of whippet breeders don't make money on their puppies. With genetic testing, routine care for the mother, vet care for the puppies, and a dozen other expenses, they often don't so much as break even. Breeding dogs, done right, is a rather expensive hobby rather than a business. Rescue's adoption fee is around $250-300.
