A little about us here at Timbreblue.
Timbreblue is a family hobby kennel consisting of Walt and Sharyn Hutchens, along daughter Johannah Hutchens Gage with her husband Derek Gage. We are based in Virginia and South Carolina.
We share our home in southwest Virginia with whippets: Siren, Aimee, Poppet, Graffiti, Eddy, Wendy, Mia, Jaime, and Sparrow. Most of our older dogs are retired or just pets. We breed a little, show occasionally, rescue when we can, and just enjoy our dogs and life in general. Much of our time is spent on dog owner education through various forums and Facebook pages, as well as private correspondence.

Sharyn and Walt met online in 1997, married, and moved to the mountains of the Shenandoah Valley in southwest Virginia, where they together renovated a 1920s farmhouse on seven acres.
Before their storybook second chance romance, Sharyn was a collie breeder in South Carolina who had raised two children and been convinced by daughter Johannah to get “just one” whippet. Walt, retired from the Navy, lived in Front Royal, VA with his obedience-trained marvel, Judy Street Dog CDX. Little did they know their farmhouse would soon be a bit more careworn, and chock full of whippets!
These days, there’s not much about dogs that we’re not interested in – genetics, behavior, health, psychology, training, breeding, history – and especially the relationships between people and dogs. In other words, pets.
