The
Petdogs-L Chart of Breed Prices
The
following average prices were compiled from data gathered
in a survey of breeders on the Showdogs-L, Judge-mental,
Purebred_Canines, Showdogs (eGroups) and Purebred e-mail
lists in fall, 2000. The purpose is to give you some idea
of what to expect when you call a breeder. Keep in mind
that prices in your area may be very different.
These
figures were computed by collecting a sampling of prices,
discarding the highest and lowest, and averaging the rest.
The accuracy in each breed depends on the number of responses
we received and how typical these responses are. The chart
is intended only to provide some idea of the price of a
purebred puppy of each breed. (If you'd like to help fill
in the blanks for some breeds we don't have, contact
us.)

*Some
of the toy breeds, notably Maltese and Yorkshire Terriers,
are priced partly according to sex and size, with the females
and the "tinies" costing substantially more. Prices on the
low end of the ranges above are usually for males, normal
breed size. There is no such thing as a "teacup"
in any breed, though sometimes these especially small dogs
are referred to as teacups.
