Considering a Whippet?

Whippet breeders are very protective of the breed. Most will ask you to sign an agreement that a puppy sold as a pet will not be bred. This precaution is to safeguard the quality and health of whippets as a whole. In popular breeds where careless or uninformed breeding is common, temperaments and appearances vary so widely that it's hard to believe that some of the dogs are even the same breed! Careless or ill-informed breeding has made many breeds shy, snappy, and unstable. We don't want whippets to go there!

Timbreblue Plays with Matches: Ember PDF Print E-mail

Ember left us at eight weeks to live with our friends Mark and Naydene Mitchell in Suffolk, Virginia. They bred and showed Mastiffs and wanted to add a smaller dog to the household.  Ember proved to be a real princess, took over the household, and the next thing we all knew, she was the start of the Mitchells' whippet breeding program. She was bred twice, and then Ember decided she wanted a quieter household and fewer dogs with whom to share. And just for her, Kelton and Judy Brandy materialized. This happens for whippets sometimes.

So Ember moved to Virginia Beach, where she reigns supreme.  Her daughter Flair carried on the Marnay line.  Over the years, Naydene and I have become close friends and her puppy owners join ours on an email list and at the annual reunion.
