The Panacur Protocol Print

We've been asked a number of times about our use of the "Panacur protocol" to produce worm-free puppies. We've used this on many whippet litters now with many different dams, with all good results and no problems. The puppies were healthy, most birthweights slightly above normal for the breed at 11-13 ounces, occasionally up to 16 oz! When fecals are checked at 6, 8 and 10 weeks, no worms have ever been found.

Below is the citation from Ettinger that we use. Please check with your own veterinarian before using any deworming program.

Keep in mind that these directions are for fenbendazole, which is the active ingredient in Panacur and similar medications.  But Panacur contains only 22.2% fenbendazole, so figure the dose accordingly.

"T. canis can be controlled by administering fenbendazole to pregnant bitches at a dose of 50 mg/kg daily from day 40 to [ten] days after whelping."
